Local bus: high speed – middle of the road – jeep braked to avoid collision – swerved – hit a tree and overturned. Jeep Driver Ananta Das (35 years) killed 

instantly – 3 injured – hospitalized. 

A tragic road accident killed one in Guwahati, three injured

Sonapur: 13 Feb, A road accident occurred yesterday at 6.35 PM near Sonapur, 25 KMs away from Guwahati, when a jeep hit a tree while giving side to a high speed local bus. According to eye witnesses, the jeep braked in order to avoid collision with a local bus along the middle of the road which was coming at a very high speed from the opposite direction. The driver lost control of the jeep which swerved to the roadside and hit a tree. The jeep driver died on the spot who was identified as Ananta Das aged 35 years. Three other passengers also severely injured and they were immediately rescued to a nearby hospital by the locals.

Four Robbers looted Fifteen Lakhs from UBI, Sonapur Branch.

Sonapur, 9th Feb; A shocking bank robbery took place yesterday in United Bank Branch in Sonapur, 25 kms away from Guwahati. According to eye witnesses, at about 11.30 AM when bank had a rush of customers, four armed robbers entered the bank premise and hoisted the customers on gun point. One of them moved towards the cash counters and one into the manager’s room. A cashier at the cash counter resisted to hand over cash to the robber and was shot to death. They made the manager to open the vaults and the lockers at the gun point and they succeeded in robbing cash and other valuable worth Rupees fifteen lakhs. Before any preventive measure could be taken the robbers fled in a jeep. The bank authority has lodged a FIR with Sonapur Police Outpost. Reportedly investigation is going on, but no arrests so far.

The glorious book fair of Guwahati began

Guwahati, 21st Nov; “Books are the mirrors of the society.” said Hon’ble Governor XYZ inaugurating the glorious book fair of Guwahati which began yesterday with new glazing. According to the organizing committee, more than 164 Publishers from Assam and other states like West Bengal, Punjab, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh etc. are participating in the book fair. On the inaugural day, three books of three eminent writers were unveiled by the Governor. On the very first day there was a heavy rush of book lovers. To see the response from the public, the organizing committee as well as the publishers were excited. Prominent author Dr. Saber Sharma commented that that was a good sign for the culture.

Guwahati, 6th Feb; A devastating fireput the locals in panic yesternight at Athgaon, when they found themselves between blaze of fire midnight. The fire took its spark from a nearby go down, which might be triggered by an electronic short circuit, as per prima facie suspect. As the go down stored dry hays, it caused the fire to spread within minutes. 

                               The locals immediately rang to the FireBrigade and Athgaon Police Chowkee. The Fire Fighters, playing with their life took the situation in control. The locals, with the help of police rescued the women and the children and took them to safe places. Before the fire could be doused fully, it had burnt down the go down completely. Several other adjacent shops and private residences were also taken down, amounting a damage of several lacs of rupees.

Staff Reporter, Majuli, 13th Aug; Many villages are drastically affected in the recent flood situation in Majuli causing numerous loss of lives and assets. Reportedly the flood occurred due to the breach of the embankment of the Brahmaputra due to a heavy current triggered by the flood water from Arunachal hills. Acers of land are drowned in water including villages and paddy fields. Government has directed the district administration to do speedy rescue operations and to provide relief materials. However due to the adversity of the flood, the government aid seems insufficient. Private NGOs are playing active roles to meet the shortfall and providing all sorts of possible supports.

At about 6 PM, he lighted candle in the opening ceremony. According to the organizing committee, Publishers from Assam and other states like West Bengal, Punjab, Delhi, and Chhattisgarh etc. are participating in the book fair. On the very first day there was a heavy rush of book lovers. To see the response from the public, the organizing committee as well as the publishers were excited. Prominent author Dr. Saber Sharma commented that that was a good sign for the culture. The book fair shall continue for ten days.

A decorated Annual Prize Day Celebration in XYZ School

Guwahati; 17th Feb: After a week long cultural programme, XYZ School celebrated an adorable Annual Prize Day yesterday. The school building was beautifully decorated for the celebration which showered a festive mode in the school. The glorious event was inaugurated in the auspicious presence of Assam’s Honorable Education Minister Dr. S. Sharma. Dr. S. Sharma dignified the chair as Chief Guest of the Annual Prize Day. He felt extremely proud to distribute the prizes among the winners of various sports events. He spelt, “The prizes won today will enthrall towards a bigger victory tomorrow.” in an encouraging tone.
