FAMILY | EDUCATION OF K RAJA RAO
Raja Rao Born in 1909 in the village of Hassanna,Mysore was eldest son of H.V. Krishnaswamy a professor of Nizam college and His mother, Gauramma, was a housewife she died when Raja Rao was 4 years old. Rao was the eldest of 9 siblings having a seven sisters and brother.when Rao was only four years old he lost his mother which left a lasting impression upon him.
Raja Rao received his early education in a Muslim school the Madarsa-e-Aliya in Hyderabad.After having matriculated from Hyderabad in 1927,he went over to Nizam's College for his higher education.He was awarded government scholarship by the Hyderabad university and on this scholarship,he went to France to continue his study of French literature there.First ,he studied at the university of Montpellier,and then worked for the Doctorate degree at the university of Sorbonne under the supervision of such an eminent scholar as Prof.Cazamian ,a name familiar to all students of English literature.
LATER LIFE AND LITERARY CARRIER
Rao lived in France from 1928-1939.After returning from France ,He participated in quit India movement of 1942.Rao's involvement in the nationalist movement is reflected in his first two books.The book Kanthapura gives the realistic account of the Gandhian freedom struggle.This is artistically the best of his novels . E.M Forster has praised it as "the finest novel to come out of India".
He also visited united states in the year 1950 for the first time and was fascinated by American culture and life .Their he worked as a visiting philosopher ,lecturing at various American Universities and expounding Hindu philosophy to American students.from 1966-1986 he was a Professor of Philosophy at the university of Texas at Austin.
