Vikram Seth is an Indian poet, novelist ,travel writer ,librettist , children's writer , biographer and memoirist .He was born in 1952 in Calcutta . Seth has written many novels and poetry Books .

Vikram Seth's father Premo Seth worked for a long time with Bata - shoe company and due to which he is known in certain circles as 'MR. Shoe'


Vikram Seth's mother Laila Seth was a High court  judge , She was also a writer ,her autobiography on Balance (2003) gives significant perspective on her own personal career and those of her talented children .

Seth's parents seems to have seminal influence on the growing writer.

Seth's Novel 'A Suitable Boy (1933) ,in many ways a novel patterned from autobiographical material in this Novel many of his fictional characters are drawn from life .

Seth's receive his primary and secondary education at the Doon school in Dehradun in India,  Seth studied philosophy ,politics , and economics at Corpus Christi college , Oxford ,there seth developed an interest in poetry and Chinese .

          Travel writings : From Heaven Lake : Through Sinkiang and Tibet

His travel book FROM HEAVEN LAKE : TRAVELS THROUGH SINKIANG AND TIBET (1983) was his first popular success and won the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award .

POETRY
   
         Seth has published Five volumes of poetry . His first MAPPINGS (1980) , originally privately published .

In 2009 Seth contributed four poems to Oxfam.

NOVELS

The first of his novels , ''The Golden Gate ''(1986) is a novel in verse about the lives of a number of young professionals in San Fransisco .
